Liège – St-Léonard

The St-Léonard neighbourhood extends between the Meuse and the slopes of the Citadel, a stone’s throw from the historical heart of Liege. It rapidly developed during the 19th century, with the industrial boom, but then felt the full force of industrial decline, reason for which it has been the subject of special attention from the regional and local authorities since the end of the nineties. The district, which has more than 12,000 residents, is still however experiencing regeneration difficulties, as well as socio-economic ones. Nevertheless, it has many assets and local resources, which could be better mobilised within a sustainable development dynamics.

2011-07-01 | Collective purchasing groups for energy audits in Hodimont

The group has been set up as part of the Isol'Hodimont project to help both home owners and landlords with properties in the district. The main aim of the initiative is to group together all of the audit and certification applications from the district and thus ensure a top-quality service for a lower unit price. In May 2011, the LEMA research group at the University of Liège issued a call for tenders to more than 80 audit and certification bodies in Liège and Verviers. Of the nine tender applications submitted, only one met the necessary criteria in terms of quality and comparative price. Thanks to a targeted promotional campaign within the district and the help of the Verviers Guichet de l'énergie [energy information service], the project now coordinates no fewer than 40 audit and certification applications

Three additional sessions are also planned for later in the year. All organisations active within the district have been encouraged to recommend the sessions to their customers and members.

During December 2010, a group order for insulation work was placed with contractors to be carried out at some fifteen sites in the St-Léonard district of Liège. Thus over 1200 m2 of walls and flooring have been insulated. The product used for these various sites comes in liquid form and mainly consists of vegetable oils. Sprayed on at a temperature of 60°, it forms a soft flexible foam within 6 seconds.

2010-11-27 | Visit to Ecologically Renovated Construction Sites

In the form of a ballad, the residents of St-Léonard visit, in their own neighbourhood and on the surrounding slopes, 3 ecologically renovated construction sites. This event, which seeks to raise awareness for energy-saving and ecological renovation of buildings, also offers a chance to discover breathtaking landscapes just outside the city.
